DECEMBER 2019: Within Every Reindeer is a Dear
by Dominique Liongson

illustrated by Dominique Liongson

It appears that a reindeer is one of the popular icons of Christmas. Strangely, a reindeer can bring a romantic touch this way. Check this out:

PARTNER 1: Let me be your reindeer.
PARTNER 2: How will you be one?
PARTNER 1: When you’re out in the rain on a wet day, I will keep you dearly dry like rain-dears do.
(“rain-dears” = sounds like “reindeers”)

Although it doesn’t snow in the Philippines, nor does it have any reindeers, the Philippines has its rain and loving dears to keep their beloved safely dry. If you are wise in the heart and the head, no doubt have you chosen a partner who is as capable as rain-dears do. (Sounds like the secret to loving loyalty, isn’t it?)

You are invited to buy my book to share with the people you love, and also yourself this Christmas. I refer to Pun-tastic Ways for Brighter Days. It is good clean fun that you can’t help but roll your eyes or crack up laughing. Something like we gave the book our permission to make that happen.

Hurry! Order a copy (or copies) of Pun-tastic Ways for Brighter Days before the postal services go on holiday. (Too late? Then give it a go to order when the business days kick in. Have a drama-free delivery!)

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

NOVEMBER 2019: Let Your True Love Be Your Turkey
by Dominique Liongson

illustrated by Dominique Liongson

It never occurred to me that a turkey in a Thanksgiving Dinner can be romantic. But, I think again. Check this out:

PARTNER 1: Let me be your Happy Thanksgiving.
PARTNER 2: How will you be one?
PARTNER 1: You will be happier after I am your tear-key who unlocks your tears, and lets you cry on my shoulder.
(“tear-key” = sounds like “turkey”)

One of the best things to be thankful about this Thanksgiving is having each other in good times and bad times. Encouraging a moment of tears will help make room for more happy memories with each other. After having good tears of sorrow, it’s perfect to speak and to listen to the words of good cheer.

As for words of good cheer, I know of a book to support that need. Have a good reading and sharing with Pun-tastic Ways for Brighter Days.

Although nothing can make us laugh, this little book encourages eye-rolls and laughter. Most likely we can say that this book has our permission.

by Dominique Liongson

illustrated by Dominique Liongson

Melting in the arms of your partner can happen on Halloween. Check this out:

PARTNER 1: Be my Halloween.

PARTNER 2: Why?
PARTNER 1: Because on the first time we met, you ween my hallo.
(Sounds like “…you win my hello”)

Did that make you smile? Wow!

Although Halloween candies can result into tooth decay or diabetes, it doesn’t have to be this way.

There’s candy without the dangers to the teeth nor the rest of the body. It is conversation candy called a pun. It is both teeth friendly and diabetic friendly. Composing and sharing puns are as easy as a piece of cake.

SEPTEMBER 2019: Frozen Food in the -ber Months
by Dominique Liongson

illustrated by Dominique Liongson

Although winter isn’t the time for a frozen snack in the Northern Hemisphere way above the equator, this doesn’t stop you in the Philippines. Check this out:

PARTNER 1: Will you be my… my ease cone yellow?

PARTNER 2: What is that?

PARTNER 1: Because you’re corny and a sweet cream of the crop with a frozen touch.

PARTNER 2: Ohhh, I see. You mean your mais con yelo.
(mais con yelo = sweet corn kernels with ice)

Frozen food in the Philippines… ahh… If you want to be more adventurous, try some guinomis, halo-halo, or gulaman at sago

Enjoy the brrr-y chilly season with warmth in mind and heart. Looks like the start of the -ber months and onwards will be loaded with sweetly corny pick up lines.  An example would be like the one about mais con yelo.

Speaking of corny and sweet, a joke book can help you with that. Get yourself a copy of Pun-tastic Ways for Brighter Days. Reading it will let you roll your eyes or crack up laughing. Whether this book is read or heard, it will bring a smile to your beloved’s face and yours.

AUGUST 2019: Autumn in the Philippines?
by Dominique Liongson

illustrated by Dominique Liongson

They say there are two seasons in the Philippines: Wet Season and Dry Season. Hands down! They missed out Autumn. Check this out:

Q: What is the closest Autumn experience in the Philippines?
A: To FALL in love.
(Fall = Autumn)

Looks like it is Valentine’s Day part 2.

A sweetie pie question to ask a partner is: “This Autumn, will you catch me… when I FALL in love with you?”

How syrupy sweet and cutie corny is that! Although it is, hearing it can either make your heart go “thump-thump” or “tibuk-tibok”.

JULY 2019: Who is July Who Owns a Fort?
by Dominique Liongson

illustrated by Dominique Liongson

Dear American, Your Filipino partner might ask... Who is this fellow named July? Check this out:

Q: How do some Filipino partners understand the American Independence Day?
A: If it is not in the Fort of Bonifacio, it must be in the Fort of July.
(“fort” = sounds like “fourth”)

Sometimes the sound of words seem funny when misheard. But, the one who misunderstood it can be deadly serious. Like the Fourth (4th) of July sounds like the Fort of July.

Don’t we just love the word play of puns? They are safer explosions of laughter compared to the explosions of Independence Day fireworks. And, more fun than getting burned with firecrackers.

By the way, when the case of the Fort of July is cleared, expect smiles and giggles. Enjoy the "fireworks" between you and your partner. Sweet!

Looking forward to more puns? There is a book that has 365 jokes to read and share. This is Pun-tastic Ways for Brighter Days. They are puns in riddle form that results in either eye-rolls or laughter.

Spend the rest of July with fantastic laughter. Buy this pun-tastic book now!

JUNE 2019: Asin-full Summer
by Dominique Liongson

illustrated by Dominique Liongson

How bad can the summer be? Check this out:

Q: Why is it wrong to lie while bathing in the salty sea?
A: Because it’s a-sin to tell a lie
(“a sin” sounds like “asin” which means “salt”)

We’ve heard of a sinful summer.  Ever heard of asin-full summer? This is where naughty kids of all ages are told to kneel on rock salt for telling one lie or more. My, what a painful memory to endure…

Filipino partners who know the Tagalog dialect plus English would be smiling upon hearing that pun. But do they know puns from the English language?

These partners may find Pun-tastic Ways for Brighter Days helpful.  If they don’t get the play of words, you may enlighten them. Then you may have eye-rolls, smiles, giggles, and laughter along the way.

by Dominique Liongson

In the Philippines, Valentine’s Day is not the only season to celebrate happy flowers? Check this out:

Q: Why in May are there flowers on the streets of the Philippines?
A: Because they are celebrating Floor-es de Mayo
(sounds like “Flores de Mayo” which means “Flowers of May”)

If you gave your partner some fresh flowers last Valentine’s Day, why not try something different? Consider paper flowers —as cool as origami— and a bundle of wholesome jokes.

Jokes can be extracted from the internet and list them on paper. Or, write some down based on what you remember.

APRIL 2019: Filipinos Stay Youthful in the Rain
by Dominique Liongson

illustrated by Dominique Liongson

No doubt, Filipinos look youthful in the rain. Do you know why? Check this out:

Q: Why do Filipinos look youthful in the rain?

A: Because they are nagpapa-young
(sounds like “nagpapayong” which means “using an umbrella”)

Not only are they making themselves young, they are nagpapayong under the rain to stay dry.

We’ve heard of “Rain, rain, go away. Come again another day”.  Why not enjoy the rain indoors while it rains outside? An idea would be to prepare hot soup, share it with your partner, and tell jokes— ranging from corny to hilarious.

To have a good head start, grab a copy of Pun-tastic Ways For Brighter Days. It is a collection of clean pun intended riddles. It will get you and your partner eye-rolling or crack up laughing.

MARCH 2019: When We All Get a Pen on Graduation Day
by Dominique Liongson

illustrated by Dominique Liongson

Pen? What pen? Check this out:

Q: What pen —that doesn’t write— do you get on Graduation Day?

A: If it is not di-pencil, it must be di-pluma
(di-pluma = sounds like "diploma" paper, and “the pluma” which means “the fountain pen” )

Whether one or both of you graduate, or someone invites you to a graduation treat, let’s extend the happiness.

We all love to share a good joke. Although this is true, we still need to choose happy and zero offensive jokes. This way we will all enjoy the day with the least negative dramas.

The resource I recommend is Pun-tastic Ways for Brighter Days. It is a book-full of 365 punny riddles. They are clean and wholesome to share. However, it takes your personal judgement which riddle matches 1)the occasion, and 2)the people present during the event.

Give it a go. Buy a copy of Pun-tastic Ways for Brighter Days. Start eye-rolling or laughing.

FEBRUARY 2019: A Bull on Valentine’s Day?
by Dominique Liongson

How did a bull fit in Valentine’s Day? Check this out:

Q: What does a farmer give a twice as lucky cow on Valentine’s Day?
A: A bull-luck-luck
(sounds like "bulaklak" = flower)

Telling jokes like this from American partner to Filipino partner on Valentine’s Day will make a joker like you a Funny Valentine. This partner may not help but think of you as such a sweetie pie (or perhaps secretly smiling when feeling grumpy).

One may ask, how about telling dirty jokes on Valentine’s Day? Based on observation, this genre of jokes kills the romance. They may be funny but they leave disgust in the back of one's mind. Ewww!

Although this is so, some couples indulge in these jokes and somehow this works for them. You will find out what works and what doesn’t with a test drive. Test telling a dirty joke, then a clean one, and see which one works out best.

Running out of clean jokes? I recommend you refer to the book titled Pun-tastic Ways for Brighter Days. Instead of sharing a dozen chocolates in a box, how about 365 funny riddles in a book? Both of you will either eye roll or laugh buckets and buckets.

Be a Funny Valentine, or a couple of Funny Valentines.  Buy Pun-tastic Ways for Brighter Days to make that happen and have a...
